The position after White's 25th move.

A strange thing happened here, Bardeleben stared at the chess board, looked up at his opponent and left the playing hall without a word being spoken. He didn't return to the board though the chess officials found him pacing outside the playing hall.

What had happened? It became apparent that Bardeleben did not want to resign but instead left the board to allow his opponent to claim a win on time. So Steinitz, the former World Champion, had to wait for Bardeleben’s time to run out before he could claim the win.

                                 White wins on time  1 - 0

Not to disappoint the spectators who were following this game, Steinitz demonstrated the final 10-move checkmate to everyone's delight. Can you see it?

  Anyway, here's a possible continuation.

Master Chess

Simultaneous Chess Match against International Master Jimmy Liew
(27 February 2016)
(Midvalley Megamall, Kuala Lumpur)
Organised by White Knight Chess Academy
& Cheras Chess Academy

International Chess Master Jimmy Liew played in a clock simultaneous chess match against 11 players at the White Knight Chess Academy. The time control used was 1 hour for Jimmy for all his games while the players had 1 hour each to  individually play against the two time Malaysian Chess Champion. It was made even more difficult by the fact that there were 5 FIDE rated players playing that day.

It was a great day for chess as Jimmy agreed to play in such a match after so many years of not playing in such chess exhibition matches. Jimmy won most of his games while agreeing to draws in his last few games. Congratulations to  Yong Tuck Kei who managed to beat Jimmy after the master blundered in a good position.

All participants received a certificate of participation each. The good news is that more of such chess matches will be organised in the future. Here are some photos taken on that day.

(Midvalley Megamall,  Kuala Lumpur)
Organised by White Knight Chess Academy
& Cheras Chess Academy

The players were in for a bonus as Chess Master Collin Madhavan played against all-comers in the remaining time left. Yes, 2 simultaneous matches against 2 chess masters in one day.

Nazmi (left) is humoured as his coach is playing a new line against him.
