Typhoon Usagi hits Hong Kong

...... on the last day of the FIDE trainers seminar. But the seminar ends well
with only one participant not able to make it for the trainers exams.

South China Morning Post

FIDE Trainer Seminar
September 20 to 22
(Hong Kong)

FIDE Trainers’ Seminar for FIDE Trainer Titles

From 20th to 22nd September 2013 a FIDE Trainers’ Seminar (FTS-HON 2013-Prospectus) was held in Hong Kong Island in Hong Kong. The event took place in the ‘Kennedy Town Community Center’ (days 1 & 2) and in the ‘Traders Hotel’ (day 3) and it was held for 15 hours in 3 days. The Lecturer was GM & FST Efstratios Grivas (Greece - Secretary of the FIDE Trainers’ Commission).
The seminar was co-organised by the FIDE, the Asian Chess Federation (ACF), the FIDE Trainers’ Commission (TRG), the Hong Kong Chess Federation, and the Caissa Chess Club Hong Kong. It was the first seminar ever that was held in Hong Kong and 20 participants from Hong Kong, Malaysia, China, Thailand, Spain and South Korea registered.
Well, 15 training hours was already a good experience for the trainees, but there were also an
examination and FIDE titles to be awarded as well.
Unfortunately the event was a bit affected by the typhoon ‘Usagi’ which badly hit Hong Kong on the last day of the seminar, causing various problems - even a participant couldn’t make it to the exams!
I shouldn’t forget to thank David Garceran Nieuwenburg, who tried his best to make all of us feel comfortable. I had a wonderful experience in the Hong Kong seminar & lectures and I feel like thanking everybody who made it possible! I promised to return in the near future for more training and more experience to be gained by everybody!
   See you soon,
GM Efstratios Grivas
(Sourse: Fide Website)

"In the weekend of 20-22 September IGM Efstratios Grivas led 20 participants, including 8 participants who had come from 7 different federations, through an interesting and important seminar that will result in an expansion of the Hong Kong certified trainer base by at least double.

Efstratios Grivas made each three of the 5 hour session fly by. The topics presented covered a wide array of useful information for trainers to better support their students, from nutrition facts, sleeping patterns, motivation, analyzing results, chess wisdom from classics, opening preparation, handling of endgames and so on.

Despite the fact that various logistics had to be rearranged to hold the last day of the seminar in the middle of the biggest storm on the planet in 2013 passing through Hong Kong, 19 of 20 the participants were able to make it and complete the seminar successfully.

Well done participants and congratulations. Well done Efstratios and thanks for your visit and inspiring seminar!"
